Brief
To create a typographic poster to commemorate the historic 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Insight
Inspired by the famous D-Day stripes used to identify allied aircraft during the landings. My initial idea was to use condensed typography to try and imitate the form of the black and white stripes. I used a collection of reference images of the markings in context to inform my thinking and aid my design process — the length of the stripes informed the portrait orientation, with the even spacing and colour order helping to define the historical reference.
